A picture of them both looking and smiling!!!

I snapped a couple of Shelby's haircut this morning.

Funny ORACLE

One of the applications I work in is JDeveloper. Every day at start-up it has a "Tip of the day" and usually they are pertaining to the tool with tips and shortcuts. Here was today's:

One day it said something about putting angel food cake in the freezer before cutting it or something. Funny application programmers!!!

Some pictures from last night

Look how big our boy is getting!!!

Obviously sometime during dinner last night my camera got something on the lens, because it's usual low-quality pictures are even worse and blurry in these after dinner pictures.

But it is SO rare that I get both kids smiling and together in a picture, I still have to use them!

Shelby's on the phone...

She's talking to her 4 year old cousin Matthew, so I started transcribing. :)
...
I'm gonna have to ask my dad, I'll be back in a minute.
Daddy, Matthew wants to know if we can go to his house tomorrow cause he wants me and Coleman to ride on his big truck.
...
Ok I talked to my dad and he said we have to go to work and school tomorrow, so probably not.
Ok hold on, I'll be right back.
Mommy, Daddy, well what if we can go there on an S day, not on a school day?
...
Matthew, my mommy and daddy said we probably could come on an S day.
We're gonna talk about doctors at school soon.
Yeah so we can probably come on an S day sometime. Ok bye.

Saturday morning Shelby and I got our hairs did.
I kind of have a constant ponytail, and wanted a style. **Pay no attention to the fact that I have a ponytail in the rest of the pictures from Saturday! :)

After the hair salon, we were off to Dallas to do Millie's bridal pictures. Nope, you can't see any pictures of that here! Well, maybe in 5 months :) She was/is a GORGEOUS bride and it was a great, mostly overcast day for pictures!

After that we rushed home to where the babysitter was already waiting, and got ready for a night out. We planned this a couple of months ago, to celebrate Mom's birthday.
Since we were running way late, we called and reserved "our room" at our favorite little Italian hole-in-the-wall place in the NRH.

The players:
(Girls team)

(Boys team)

On everyone's team:

My handsome husband...

Luke and Adam ("the gay ones")

See?...

Love!

Then, we were off to SCAT jazz lounge!

Apparently, wearing a short dress trumps being 6'4'' for who has to climb into the 3rd row seat (according to ME!)

(I know Jeff looks like a giant, but those are just wine bottles, not beers.)

The chaperones :) heehee

Millie and Jeff- the safe ones.

Luke. No other caption needed.

Pops and Millie Moopalini.

Me & Nonnie

The boy table.

Couldn't find a full one of these all night

Too cool Pops. (Ellen this one is for you!)

See above captions re: Luke and Adam.

I think Millie was hogging the parents all night.

Awwww

This is what my face looks like when an old drunk lady sitting behind me tugs on the bottom of my dress when my picture is being taken.

(This is probably also how my face looked when Jeff talked to the sitter at 10:15 and she was BATHING OUR KIDS at that point.)

We had a great, relaxing and carefree night out!
It don't mean a thang if you ain't got that swing...

This post brought to you by the Number Four.

Today we took Shelby to her 4 year old check-up.
She weighed 40 1/2 pounds.
She is 40 3/4 inches tall.
The put us in exam room 4.

She had to get 4 3 shots.

We had her all prepared for 4 shots when they said they had one with the DPT and Polio combined, so only 3 shots.
She was SO good at this appointment. They did a vision check, a hearing check, and she even had to pee in a cup and did so great at it all. (20/20 vision, perfect hearing) The doctor asked her if she could hop on one foot, so she did so...then she heard the doctor asking me if she could draw a stick figure, and I said yes. She grabbed the magna-doodle that was in the room and drew a person complete with eyes, ears, nose, lips, hair, arms, legs, and a purse, then she made ME show it to the doctor. :)

It was a great visit, followed by Pizza Inn buffet for lunch.

We are so blessed and happy to have a strong, healthy, happy girl!

And for another place to sun and swim!!!

I must selfishly admit that I wish this house was closer to US and less in (Lake Highlands) DALLAS, but nevertheless... :)

a few little Shelbyisms

Tonight the kids were dancing in the living room. Shelby said, "Daddy pretend like your name is "French Quarter" and Cole's name is "Southlake."
Talking about what's for dinner in the car: "Mommy, I want to go to the Grapevine Chick-Fil-A"

I have probably mentioned before how we have "debates" about who loves each other more. Shelby's most frequent thing is to say, "I love you how big the Earf [Earth] is." But others times, she says, "I love you how big North Richland Hills is" or "I love you how big our state Texas is."

In the car yesterday, all was quiet and then I hear Shelby out of the blue say.... "SERIOUSLY!?!?!" She's been talking to her babies a lot. As she was feeding her baby some food from her new play kitchen, I overheard her say, "You eat what you get and you don't throw a fit." I made a mental note to re-use that one.

If you haven't already figured it out, car rides are some special quality time in our family! You won't find a dvd player in our cars unless we're on a 4+ hour trip! I truly believe that you can't beat the special time spent **with the kids strapped in!** for some quality conversation!
Every single day when we pick Cole up from school and are pulling out of the parking lot, Shelby says, "Mommy did you get Cole's sheet? What did Cole do today?" and so I read it off and we talk to Cole about what he did all day at music, art, movement, and lunch. And we talk about his word, color, shape, and Spanish word of the week.

Yesterday Shelby and Daddy went on a bike ride/walk together. Shelby had to stop to check her double knots (yes, this is normal for our OCD girl. Double knots in her tennies are one of her particulars!) She finished and looked up and said, "This is a really nice area." Daddy said, "That's what I was just thinking!" and she replied, "I agree."

A frequent thing she says out of the blue: "Mommy are you happy?" Of course I am ALWAYS happy, especially when I'm with her and she's asking that. When I ask her back, she always says that she is "SOOOOsooooo happy." :)

Shoes

When Cole saw the shoes I was about to put on him this morning he cried, "NOOOOooo!" and ran to his closet. He opened it up, grabbed another pair, and said, "My really want wear these shoes Mom."

Oh Lordy. Two of them now?!?!

Every single morning is at the very least, a shoe battle with Shelby. Occasionally she is ok with the clothes I have picked out, but she will most definitely not like the shoes I have picked. My new experiment is to pick a pair that does NOT go just so she for sure won't wear them. That will probably backfire on me and it will be the first day ever that she wears the shoes that I first pick.

Happy Birthday Nonnie!!! (and Mimi and Nana too!!!)

April is the birthday month of many of my favorite ladies! Shelby's is the 11th of course, we've already covered that!
Today is my mom's birthday! April 22!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NONNIE!!!

My mama is the wonderful mother of 4 kids, and the world's best grandmother "Nonnie" to my 2 children. She is a dedicated 4th grade teacher to kids who REALLY need someone to love them, who live in poverty and without families and sometimes even baths or food! She is their angel for sure!

WE LOVE YOU!!!

April 3 is my Mimi's birthday. Mimi is my dad's mom.

(from Sept '08)

She is an amazing woman, a nurse, who is the mother of 3, grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 2 (mine!) and incredibly, she was the YOUNGEST of FIFTEEN kids growing up.
Happy Birthday Mimi and I'm sorry I missed it!!

The picture (1980) is of Mimi, my dad, my mom, and sitting holding me is Mimi's mom, Grandma Philpot. Mimi is named Sophia after her mother, who passed away in either 1980 or 1981- I can't remember but know it was soon after I was born. She made it to meet and hold her youngest child's first grandbaby! :)

Lastly, my mom's mom (NANA!) has a birthday on April 26th.

(From Nov '08)

Nana is the mother of 4, grandmother of 10, and great-grandmother of 5 (Shelby, McKenzie, Coleman, Cooper, and Cameron) with another one (Ava Mae) on the way! She is also a grandma to her husband Garland's grandkids, 3 of them, and 3 great-grandkids on that side!

This pictures is my mom and her mom (Nana), and that is Nana's mom, Grannie Artie holding me!

I feel a special bond with my grandmothers since my dad reminds me often that I didn't have a chance of being a soft-spoken quiet lady. The strong and out-spoken, opinionated women seem to run in the family! :) LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Chatter

So Cole is definitely into the terrible twos. I have to work hard to keep a straight face sometimes because him trying to be BAD is funny to me (sometimes!)

On Sunday I was cutting the crust off his sandwich, I thought that might be why he wasn't eating it. He screamed, "NO! No you cut my san'wich!!!"

Later, as I was trying to get him to nap, I went into his room and put him back into bed, then stood outside his door where he could see me. He sat up and yelled, "GO OUT! Go out MOM!" (Notice he said Mom, not Mommy.) I said, "No, Lay down Coleman." "NO! No you lay down in my bed!!!"
He gets so huffy and serious that it is hilarious to me.

Of course, he announces every time he toots, (thanks Daddy). Store, restaurant, school, wherever...Last weekend it was at a birthday party. "My TOOTED!"

He is still talking about the Thomas ride. Every time we hear a train (we can hear one from our house so this is often) or drive over train tracks (also often) he starts CRYING that he wants to go ride Thomas. Depending on his mood, it is a short-lived whine to an all-out fit.

Here's a piece of art he worked on on Sunday when I tried to check my email for 30 seconds:

And this is his, "What the heck????" face

I only got a couple of pictures at the Kerr house on Sunday.

The girly girls who really love playing together:

And the 4 rascals (missing "baby" Joey who had already left)

Yesterday Jeff and I worked in the yard for several hours (quite a work out!!!) I want to get better pictures since these were taken after dark.

Jeff's Japanese green maple is starting to stake its claim on one of the front beds! Such a pretty tree!

A few of the flowers we planted in the big bed (which is otherwise covered in Asian jasmine) That is Jeff's bald cypress tree that's starting to bud finally this season.
