We left for Disney World on the Wednesday of Spring Break 2011. Planning it that way was so nice because we still got to be home and “relax” (while packing) and enjoy 4 days off of school and work (except Daddy) before we ever left for Florida. The sole reason we planned it like this is because we could fly Wed – Tues for $800 total for the family. Going weekend – weekend over spring break was triple that price for airfare! For this trip, Coleman was 4 and Shelby was 5, a month shy of turning 6. It was right in between their (4th and 6th) birthdays!
We planned this trip in January, so we kept a big fat huge secret from Shelby and Coleman for over 2 months! We didn’t tell the kiddos that we were going to Disney World until that morning that we left. We all woke up at 4 am to get ready and head to Dallas Lovefield for a 7:30 am flight. (Mommy didn’t sleep at all. I couldn’t stop my mind’s excitement!) We have a video from when we told them but I haven’t gotten around to watching it or uploading it yet. Where is that video camera??…
The kids knew that they were getting a surprise for a few weeks, and we had a countdown each day. They spent the weeks guessing what the surprise was, and guessed all sorts of things from new clothes or toys to going to Chuck E Cheese. They never guessed anything as big as Disney though! :) Coleman did come up with the closest guess. He kept guessing that we were going “somewhere that we haven’t been before with lots of games.” The announcement of the surprise happened when Shelby and Coleman were given their clothes to get dressed in, straight out of bed that morning. They had new shirts that said, “I am on my way to Disney World.” To find out, we had Shelby read the shirts :) It took Coleman a while to wake up and “get it.” First he was mad that his shirt said the same thing as Shelby’s. Classic sibling rivalry at its finest, huh?! Once it sunk in, they were pretty excited, to say the least!
Our first picture reveals just how early it was when we left for the airport. It was still dark outside and Coleman was still a zombie.
(Waiting in the airport.)
This would be Coleman’s FIRST time on an airplane and the first time Shelby would REMEMBER being on an airplane!
Every flight we were on was about full to the brim!
Once we landed in Orlando, we headed to the Disney Magical Express bus that would take us to our hotel.
The kids were SOoooo ready to be there. When we told them, oh, 8 hours ago that we were headed to Disney World, I don’t think they grasped that they had a day full of travel ahead of them…but were still smiling all the way…
We got to our hotel, got checked in and into our room quickly, and waited about an hour for them to bring our luggage to our room (Disney transfers it from the plane to your hotel room for free! Bonus!) Once our clothes were delivered, we changed clothes and headed out to spend our first evening at Magic Kingdom.
All excited/silly/delirious and ready for our first outing:
We hopped our first quick Disney Transport bus from our hotel to the park, and we were there in no time.
Once inside the park, we played our first game. It was called “Let’s take turns closing our eyes for the picture.”
Thanks to Photoshop, 2 smiles in the same picture, haha!…
We headed right down Main Street we ran right smack dab into the middle of the A Dream Come True Parade. They were jammin!!
Here, we saw lots of our first characters, dancing right out in the street.
Shelby got her dance on too!
We made our way around the parade, thinking, “Man these people sure know how to party!” Smiles all around!
