Coleman’s High Hat Tea Party

A week ago Coleman’s school had a “High Hat Tea Party".”  There were finger foods, fruit, pinwheel sandwiches, cookies, yummy cupcakes, and of course (iced) tea!  All the teachers, kids and parents wore hats.  We kind of rushed home after eating because a big ol’ storm was brewin and Mommy doesn’t like storms.  But there are pictures!

I brought Coleman an “OLE” sombrero and Shelby picked out this real child’s jockey hat at Goodwill.  It has come in handy for protection during the tornado stake-outs in the bathtub!  She wears it all the time- eating, swinging, watching tv.

Halfway through he decided to put on his train conductor’s hat instead.

This was an interesting display in Cole’s classroom.  It says “Drawing to the Music.”

Coleman’s is the 2nd down on the left of each of the displays.  I think it’s so funny how the Rock-n-Roll one (left) is so frantic for most of the kids with lots of hard scribbles and straight lines.  The country one has more circles, jazz has some actual drawings, and classical seems to be calm and smaller drawings.  Coleman’s, though, look almost the same with each kind of music.  They look like spider webs!

Drck: Nothing Can Stop Me

Shelby sat down to draw this last week as we put on the Mavs vs. Thunder game where the Mavs clenched the series to head to the Finals!

This is her "Yaaaaaa I'm Dirk!" face.

The finals start tonight with Game 1 against the Heat, so it's about time I got this picture up on the inter-webs!! :)

Kindergarten: The Beginning and The End

Friday May 27 was Shelby’s last day of Kindergarten.

Our grass died but our little Sissy grew!  From a baby girl to a kindergarten graduate!

A Boy Divided

A few months ago Gram got Coleman an OKC Thunder basketball t-shirt when she was up there to visit.  Jeff’s family is all from Oklahoma, and Uncle Luke is also from Norman and is a Thunder fan.

Before the basketball playoffs started, Jeff told his mom that Coleman wouldn’t wear his Thunder shirt again until Dallas was out of the play-offs :)  Then, OKC and Dallas played each other.  Dallas won.  Then OKC won.  The next day, Jeff comes in to me laughing and bragging about “our little front-runner.”  He had dressed Coleman in this:

This is while the series was 1-1 and Dallas was still playing them!  He thought it was so funny!

The next day, another new shirt came in the mail.  We immediately put it on and said, “Ahhh, that’s more like it!”

In this picture, Coleman is growling, “Yaaaaaaaaaah” like Dirk (the German) says.

He continues to love Dirk.  Last night North Texas was under all kinds of thunderstorm and even tornado warnings.  The news stations are even broadcasting from a corner just half a mile from our house, and the skies over us are filled with helicopters this morning to assess the damage.  (We’re fine!)  Once we emerged from our bathroom “safe place” the kids were laying in our bed with the tv on (all that was on was weather reports on all channels.)  Coleman was jumping on the bed and I didn’t even know he was listening when I heard the weather guy say something about how the rotations/tornado was not going to make it to east Dallas.  A minute later, Coleman stopped what he was doing and called me in, very excited.  He said, “They said a tornado is not going in Dallas, and that’s good because Dirk has to play!”

Aren’t we glad he has his priorities straight?? :|

Camping May 2011

We went camping for the first time all year a few weeks ago on Mother’s Day weekend.

We kept it local at Cedar Hill State Park, famous for chiggers and heat! :)

We went with Susan, Trever, Ryan and Ashlyn and this was the best so far with how the kids acted/played together.  The fighting, bickering, and tattling was not there at all- just 4 kids who are finally old enough to entertain themselves and each other and have a lot of fun together! :)

I didn’t take many pictures of the weekend.  I relaxed and enjoyed it.  It was mother’s day, after all!

On Sunday after packing up, we all went on a hike on one of the park’s trails.  (As you can see, I only took time to edit about 3 pictures!)

Here they are, ready to get started.  See all the smiles? :)

Yay!  A Jeff and Meg picture!!!

I love this one of Susan and her little look-alike:

We tried to get a Kerr family picture (in a terrible shadowed spot) but Ryan wouldn’t participate.

But I did get Trever and his new pup Apollo.  Here I think he’s just 6 or 8 months old.  (?)

The Peck family picture attempt was not any better.  Note to self:  I cannot sit on Jeff’s knee when he’s crouching.

This is one of my favorite pictures though!

It got hot and the kiddos got pretty tired and whiny.  (That is not all sweat- they found water spouts along the way to cool off in)

And somehow, the mommies ended up carrying the baby boys…on MOTHER’S DAY!  The horror!!!

It was another fun weekend camping and since it was 2 or 3 weeks ago I’m finally about recovered. :)

Shelby’s First Gator Field Day

Shelby’s field day was from noon – 2:15 on Friday.

I know a LOT of school have had to cancel and/or postpone their field days this year because of a very wet May, but this day could not have been more gorgeous.  It was PERFECT, clear blue sky, sunshine, a tiny breeze, and temps in the mid-seventies.  That’s my kind of day!

I am so glad I decided to go.  I loved watching her have so much fun, but also because I don’t think there was ONE child there without a parent, and many of them had both parents and some grandparents there!

Here is our Sissy, right before the games started!

A snapshot with 2 of her besties in her class, Jaqueline and Bella.

The very first races they did were the wet ones.  First, the coffee can race.

 DSC_5572 DSC_5573d DSC_5576

That got everyone just a little wet :)

DSC_5577

Then was the sponge race to fill up the bucket.  Her class won this one!

DSC_5579

Self-portrait to prove I was there! :)

DSC_5582

Then was the water balloon toss.  Shelby and Sarah were the last girls left, and then their balloon burst while Shelby was just standing there holding it before the next toss! :(

 DSC_5583

Then was the relay race.  Shelby is there on the very left, and the 2 girls on the right came in first and second, and Shelby was third.  She was running so fast but she ran a diagonal beeline straight towards the girls who won.  She kept watching them instead of running straight!  Haha!

 DSC_5590y

She tried really really hard!

DSC_5590crop

After that, the girls all spent some time resting and cheering on the boys in their class.

Finally was the balloon pop.  Shelby loved this one the most, I think!

DSC_5598

I loved watching her be silly with her friends.

The school day ended with a fruit popsicle out on the blacktop.  What a fun day!
