Happy Father's Day

(just a few days late!)

Dear Daddy,
You are the best daddy in the whole world!
I love being your princess.

And I love being your little buddy.

The way you let us know how important we are to you, and how much you love us is just perfect.  Thank you for making it your priority to make sure we always know that we are the most important people in the world to you and how much you love us!

Thank you for loving Mommy and for being the rock of our family!  Thank you thank you thank you!  We love you more than guardalaharla, norf richland heels, and the earf!

Love and Kisses,
Shelby and Coleman

Family

This photo is from the early 1900's (somewhere around 1900-1905??)

This is my family!
In the photo is the woman who (thought by many of us) began our huge, God-centered, unique family.

Her name is Sophia Alice Eliza Reid Philpot, but known to all of us as "Grandma Philpot."  She is my Great-Grandmother.

After this picture was taken, Grandma Philpot went on to have fifteen children, the LAST of which is MY Mimi, Sophia Ann.  Since Mimi was the youngest, some of her sisters/brothers had had children before she was born, making her an aunt before she was born!  I have always loved that little statistic.
Last year I realized I have a huge arsenal of family names to use should we ever have another child!  Just some of the names of brothers and sisters are William Joseph, Stephen Reid, Mary Catherine, Jake Sandlin, Jennie Lindsey, Edmond, Richard Horton, Ruby, Julia, Mena, Mae, Sophia...lots of good names, no?!

Mimi is seen here playing Hullaballo with Shelby

and here with her husband Jack and all of their kids:

As a child my dad had somewhere around 28 aunts and uncles just on Mimi's side, so you can imagine a LOT of cousins!  They all have memories of so many summers and get-togethers over the years, and it is such a special thing to all of them.

The Philpots were not a wealthy family, or a perfect family, but they loved the Lord and each other...that is apparent even this many years later, as these descendants of Grandma Philpot gather every single year for a family reunion (we basically fill up a hotel!)   I have gone to most of them through the years, and this year my parents and my children will be attending in Arkansas.  (It's kind of a cool tradition that a lot of the "cousins"- my Dad's generation- take their grandchildren even if the parents can't make it!)  The family has spread out geographically over all the years so we have people traveling in from states all across the country for this time of family fellowship and "catching-up."

My prayer is that all of us continue to carry on this tradition of family togetherness, love of God, and the creation of plentiful generations to come (though I will not be following in the footsteps of having 15 children!)

Toes in the Sand 2010

I don't know if I will ever be able to fully blog about our Florida trip!  What a blast we had!  There may be no way to say everything I want to say and remember but you’ve gotta start somewhere!  I believe I’ll start here :)

toesinthesand

This was my FIRST trip to Florida, as well as Shelby and Coleman’s, and Jeff’s first for pleasure.  We went with 30 of our TRULY nearest and dearest...

2 grandparents, 9 aunts and uncles, 17 first cousins, and my 2 kids (who are the only "next generation"s so far) and we all made it home without any disownments or injuries.  Can you believe it?!  ;)

We made shirts for the occasion- notice the oil splatters??

However I never saw any oil and we were in the water all 7 days!

Some of my favorite highlights are:
* The first time my kids stepped on the white sand- as Coleman calls it "the sandy beach!"

…and finding out that my boy has a bit of my “brown” skin with less chance of burning (and we went through about 8 bottles of sunscreen people!)…

* Cornhole tournaments on the side yard of the house right across from the beach

* Watching my sweet youngest cousins Sam and Nicole nurture Shelby all week.

* Girls night!!! on the beach where we told deep happy secrets around the circle :)

* Seeing my husband play football and baseball with the younger cousins.

What a week we had!  So many relationships made and strengthened, so many laughs (and tears!) shared.  Can we do it again next week?!
