Deep thought by Coleman Peck

"Pee is like beer because it's bubbly."

Cole's Night Night

Tonight I spent some extra time in Coleman's room putting him to bed. As I was hugging him before lifting him into bed, he said, "I love you so much. I miss you when I sleep." I sang 4 verses of Amazing Grace as his little eyes just stared at me as he lay quietly under the covers. After that, as my arms fell asleep from reaching onto the top bunk to rub his sweet head, memories came rushing back. That same feeling of tingling arms is one of those sensory memories that has stuck with me, and reminds me of the many many nights I would hang over the crib, patting this same sweet boy's back, praying that he would fall asleep and stay asleep when I walked out. My arms would always fall asleep but I was afraid to stop the rhythm before hearing those deep baby breaths, for fear of stirring him back awake. And I did the same thing 2 years before with his sister. Despite the exhaustion and the late and sleepless nights, the memories are sweet. My baby boy still loves to be held by Mommy or Daddy, and he loves to lay his head on our shoulders. He likes me to hold him and sway him to sleepiness in his room at night. I will hold onto this as long as I can! Cole has been having some rough days at school. He has cried a couple of mornings this week as I dropped him off, which he hasn't EVER done. His teachers say it is normal after a birthday, and I know it's normal but it is still heartbreaking. Ms. Yolanda has emailed me letting me know how his day is going, and they let him come find me before leaving to give me one extra hug too. Yesterday was particularly hard for him so he needed some extra cuddles last night. He woke up yelling for me in the night, which is also unlike him. I was happy to "rescue" that boy and cuddle him the rest of the night. He slept ON TOP of me with his head against mine. He just needed to drink up some Mommy time, I think. I am happy to "let them be little" for sure! Oh how I love this boy!!!

For Nonnie

The other day Shelby noticed Coleman's little toes. She exclaimed, "OH. MY. GOSH! He has little toes like Nonnie!" I looked, and he sure does! (They're just kinda curled a bit, like a little hump) Then today, a week later, Cole was barefoot, looked at his toes, and exclaimed, "Mommy, I have NONNIE'S TOES!" So proud. :)

Wedding talk

Shelby just walked in with a "veil" over her head (really it was a tutu) and so Jeff started singing the wedding march.
Me: "Shelby, are you still going to marry Ryan?"
S: "Yes."
M: "Did you know if you marry him, you and Ashlyn will be sisters? "
S: "Uh huh."
M: "Don't you think Ryan is too young for you?"
S: VERY matter-of-factly: "NO, I just mean when I grow up, and when he grows up, we will marry."

Well, ok then!
Susan & Trever, will you help us pay for the wedding?! :)

Another trip out west

Nonnie and Poppy told us they were thinking about visiting Tyler at Lubbock soon, and when we started talking about weekends to go, Jeff remembered that he has received a letter about the Texas Tech Alumni baseball weekend on Valentine’s weekend. He hadn’t really considered that we could go, but once we realized it was do-able, we decided to go and participate in some of that, as well as seeing Uncle TyTy.

The kids and I rode with Nonnie and Poppy on Friday during the day. We decided to leave early since we were all off work and school, even though Jeff had to work all day. We got there in time for dinner at Spanky’s with Tyler, and Jeff arrived at the hotel at 1 am, after leaving DFW at 7:00pm, and getting pulled over for speeding just 45 miles out of Lubbock :( Jeff amazingly never got a ticket all those years when he was a student at Tech and driving back and forth from Denton- but that streak is now broken :(

Saturday morning Jeff headed to the field and we showed up just in time to see him coming up to bat at the beginning of the game… DSC_0133

He hit a triple off an old teammate of his, Zach Stewart. We got it on video so Jeff has promised to post it for Zach to see. :)

This is a picture of some of his old pitching buddies teammates. I was corrected on facebook! This is a few pitchers and 3/5 of the infield from Jeff's days. Let’s see if I can get the names right…

After the game, we went down on the field and decided to wake Cole up (he had fallen asleep on Nonnie) because we knew he was very excited to run around on “Daddy’s field.“

We had such a great time and MANY thanks to Nonnie and Poppy for an impromptu babysitting night so Jeff (and I) could go spend some more time with his old friends!
