Weekend Wrap-up

Worst part of the weekend: Trying to get my kids to NAP yesterday. It was quite a battle and my patience wasn't good :(

Best part of the weekend: Lots of time with my babies, and with friends!

Most random part of the weekend: Jeff was asked to work this weekend last minute, so we didn't get to see him as much as we would have liked

People I saw this weekend: My parents, Millie, all of Shelby's school friends and parents at 2 birthday parties on Saturday, Christal, Eric, Vanessa, Junior and Bryson, and Jessica & Joey, Susan, Trever, Ashlyn and Ryan

Something I wished I did this weekend that I didn't get around to doing: getting the house clean and/or laundry done, being at HOME more

Things that I am looking forward to this week: Staying on my diet and exercising every morning! An adults night out with a real babysitter on Saturday to celebrate Mom's birthday!

Things that I am not looking forward to this week: just lots of work, little play

Shelbyism

We got home late last night and though Shelby was lying in bed to go to sleep, she had to get up and tell me something about her night with Nonnie and Poppy at Burger King.

"Mommy, this is the funniest thing---well it's not funny but it's serious.
I took my pink blankie with the polka dots and I lost it and I looked everywhere and I CAN.NOT.FIND IT!
I cannot find it anywhere EVER again.
I didn't see myself take it anywhere."
She is so dramatic!

What do we do in the car?

Keepin it real...

My husband, the father of my wonderful children, has many special talents. This might be one of the greatest of those. Note, this is a 16 oz beer, not a measly 12 oz. (hahaha)



I'm thinking Guiness World Record??? :)

Just some things to remember

Favorite phrases:

Cole: "NO! My do it!!!"
Shelby: "No! I can do it myself."
Shelby: "Mommy Guess what?" (She ALWAYS makes me guess, I can't just say, "What?")
Cole: "woo-ooh-woo-ooh!" (like a siren)

Cole is really starting to love playing and shooting his basketball.

C: "My tooted!"
S: "No I tooted." (taunting)
C: "NO MY TOOTED!!!!"
S: "No I tooted." (grinning now)
C: "NO SISSY MY tooted!!!!!"
....
....
this can go on for 10 minutes, seriously. Everyday.

As I'm typing this:
Cole: "My want see Nonnie. Want call Nonnie. Want go outside. Cole'n go outside. My want choc'lat milk! My want ice water." (This was all really in a 2 minute period.)

Another phrase he yells all the time lately is "Oooooh ba ba!!!" Not sure what this is from. Maybe Blue's clues? Although we almost never watch this anymore :)

Last night in the bath:
S: "Cole I'm in the front" (taunting again)
C: "No you not in front...You in NOT Front!!!!"

Shelby girl hasn't taken off her cross necklace since she got it last Friday the night before her birthday. She said, "Mommy I'm sleepin in my necklace and you're sleepin in your necklace."

Shelby will NOT let ANYone kiss her without wiping it off. She says she doesn't like the wetness. I say she's a freak. :)

Cole is lovin' his school and his teacher, Ms. Veronica. However he hates having his diaper changed. I keep forgetting to mention this but this boy is READY to be potty trained.
He will go pee on the potty anytime you ask him to. Before bath, before bed... whenever. His diaper is also not very wet throughout the day. Yesterday Ms. Veronica told me that he yells, "NO MY NOT POOPY!!!" when she tries to change his diaper. I told her that usually when he says that, I can easily get him to go peepee on the potty (and therefore get a clean diaper afterwards) instead. Come summer this boy seems like he will be easy to potty train. (unlike his sister....hmmm, did I say that??) If I had time now and was a SAHM it would be done. :(

Shelby is best friends with most of her girl friends at school. It's amazing how they "segregate" at this young age and really love to play with their own gender. And it's SO COOL how they have these same classmates for three years, moving into each new class together. What a great smooth transition with the stability of the same friends, and only once a year! Another thing they do at her school is to enroll the same number of boys and girls in each class. This is great for their lab/teaching environment but I also think it's good for the kids. At Cole's school, he has a class of about 10 boys and 2 girls and that is just crazy to me (Lots of testosterone! haha)
Next year Cole when Cole starts at Shelby's school as a HoneyBee, he will have a friend Kyle in his class, his mom Ellen is someone that we already know and love so we are excited about that! :)
I cannot say enough good things about their school and if you are in the mid-cities area, I highly recommend it- I even heard they are doing part-time situations now! Just get on the waiting list when your baby is born! :)

What fun we have!!!!

The bike ride

Yesterday evening we all went on a family walk/bike ride. Jeff rode his bike to pull Cole in the trailer, I walked, and our FOUR year old Shelby rode her new big bike.

Early on I said, "Shelby get ready to turn up there." She said, "I know Mom, I'll do it when we get there."
Later I told her to be careful. Her response: "I know, don't worry, I'm keepin my eye on the road."

As we were going down the street I had a flashback to a couple of years ago, driving down the same street with my little toddler Shelby in the back seat, seeing a family with a little girl on a training wheel bike and thinking, "Wow, someday Shelby will do that!" ---I was looking forward to that time, thinking how fun it would be and that someday seemed so far away. I had NO idea that "someday" would come so soon. As I walked yesterday, I looked over and said to Jeff, "I can't believe she's already..." and my voice broke. Unexpectedly a huge lump rose in my throat and my eyes filled with tears. It just hit me. I have been noticing this 4th birthday of hers be pretty tough on me--- but in the middle of the afternoon on a sunny neighborhood street walking as my baby girl rode her bike in front of me faster than I could walk, I stood speechless, unable to finish my sentence. All of a sudden it seems, she is smart. She is self-sufficient. She has her own ideas and opinions and she can make them known. She is proud of herself and she strives to make us happy. She loves her brother, she is a doting and nurturing big sister. She has real relationships with real friends that she cares about. She loves God and makes sure we pray every night. She loves her parents and her doggies and flowers. (From the bike ride: "Mommy I like all the flowers I see. And if they're boy colors, I still like em. And if they're girl colors, I like em.") She can dress herself (and she can choose to wear non-matching socks!) She knows her letters and the sounds they make. She is growing up. And I am SO proud of her.

You soon-to-be mommies and mommies of infants and toddlers, watch out. I know they say it flies by and we think, "Yeah I know...", casual conversation... But it's not something that you really grasp, probably ever. I foresee it only getting worse. I have a coworker who says I'll wake up one day and they will be in college. NOoooooo! But I am sure she's right.

The important thing in all of this is that we ENJOY the time---EVERY single stage, every single day. Make it quality. Make memories. THOSE will not grow old.

Last week Mom and I headed out on the TRE to Dallas to meet Millie and Anna for Millie's bridal makeup & hair trial with the wonderfully talented Erin Blair Gobin.


We are so lucky to have Erin TRAVELING to do our hair and makeup in po-dunk Arkansas :) Luckily her in-laws live very close to where the wedding is, so Erin and her husband are making a weekend visit out of it. It's awesome when little things work out like that!

Then Anna was our fabulous designated driver back to the NRH. Thanks baby sis!




I got a new 24" widescreen monitor at work---This thing is huge, and I love it. I can easily have 4 different applications in full view at once. Love it! I wonder if they really just gave them to us so they can more easily see what it is we're working on once we're in cubicles?? :) haha Speaking of that, our move date is May 28th. So not only will we be adding the commute to downtown Fort Worth, but June is always a hard time of year because we are required to work 4 10-hours days, and that is usually a hard transition for me. TEN hours is a long day! And I gotta admit, this is gonna be a pretty sweet place to work....


...cafeterias, big nice gym and locker rooms, on the banks of the trinity river with bike and walking trails... There are definitely some things to convince myself to look forward to!

Another great thing is that we have our summer "babysitter" schedule all worked out so that the kids do NOT have to get up and go anywhere any morning. We have a "nanny" coming 2 days a week to keep them, my mom one day, Jeff one day (he works 4 10's always) and then me one day (Fridays.) They are going to have an awesome summer! Nonnie and Poppy got our family season passes to NRH2O for Christmas. We really used them a lot last year, and the kids will enjoy it even more this year being a year older. Now I just need to keep working on my swimsuit body....hahaha.
