The Calm Before the Disney Blog Storm…

Just a few pictures I wanted to share before I take on “The Blogging of the Disney Trip!”

This is sissy in her dance costume.  There haven’t been any performances yet…this was just on picture day!

And Coleman had pirate day at school:

He kind of cracks me up.

I found this wrapped on the kitchen counter last week.  Shelby had made Mary a present, wrapped in a paper towel with one of her hair (bows) flowers on top:

It was full of dog food.

I caught a sweet sister/brother moment one night:

And finally, a few pictures from a night out at the beginning of March.  My uncle Randy and Kay invited us out to a big band concert/dance thing at Preservation Hall in Fort Worth and it was fuuuunnnn!

And thank you so much to Gram (and Matthew) who came to spend some time with the kiddos and stay the night so we could have this night out!

Still to come: a day at the park with the Fishers, Gram’s SURPRISE 60th birthday, and DISNEY!

Shelbyisms AND Colemanisms

Yesterday:
M: "Buddy what did you do at school today?"
C: "Well, Ummm.....I didn't walk the plank."
This week and last week's theme in Coleman's class is PIRATES.  Coleman's pirate name is SharpTooth Peck.  For a few days that's all he would let us call him.  We were talking about what he's learning and he said that there's a deck called the poop deck on ships.  Somehow we determined that Poppy's Pirate name is Poop Deck Poppy.  Then Coleman assigned Tyler the name "Cool Dude TyTy" and he said mommy's pirate name is "Pretty Princess."  :)

M: "What did you have for lunch?"
C: "Ummmm, I don't remember..."
M: "Was it tomato soup and grilled cheese?"
C: "Ding ding ding!  That's right!  Good answer!!"

Shelby and I in the bathroom at a restaurant, she asked me to get the toilet paper for her.
S: "Whoa!  That's a lot of toilet paper!!!!"
M: "Well I get a lot so you don't get any peepee on your hands when you wipe."
S: "Well, that is wasting trees.  You don't want to waste trees do you??"

The other evening in the shower with both kids, I got frustrated with Coleman because he would NOT stop moving around and banging his cars on the floor.
I said, "Buddy can you just stand up and let me wash you??!! I just don't get all the playing!"  Shelby very sweetly replied, "Well, Mommy, grown-ups might not be *into* playing but kids love to play."   I got TOLD.

Colemanisms?

Tonight in his "Thank you God" prayer, Coleman said, "Thank you for Purty the cat" (the one we had on our front doorstep about 2 years ago!) "and Daphne" (the puppy we had 6 months ago.)

As I listened to him on the phone with his daddy tonight I just kept snickering at some of the stuff I heard:
Whachu say?  Speak up more!
Dude dis is awesome!
Bye Dude
Just kiddin'.
When can we go to a place where we don't know where there's a lot of toys where we haven't been to before?
Wait daddy first I have to tell you that I love you
Daddy.  I do love you bigger than anything.
Bye!!  I'll wish you Mulan!

Shelby’s first school Program: Texas

Let’s play a game.  It’s called “Find the Cutest Kid”….

Do you see her?  She’s bright and shiny as the sunshine.

Here she is!!!  This one!

Our little cowgirl had her first program at school last night.  It was a Texas theme.

If you’d like to watch the video of the show, I put them on YouTube.

The first one shows all the kids finding their parents and waving.  The music starts about 2:10 in.

She kept looking at us as if she was singing for us the whole time, and several times during the show she did the “I love you” sign language to her mommy and daddy.  What a sweet sweet baby girl!!

This second video is the rest of the program.  It’s 10 minutes long.  8:28 is my favorite part because that’s when she was singing “Deep in the heart of Texas” and she sang “Reminds me of the ones I love” and pointed and smiled right at her MOMMY! :)  The next time she said that line was at 9:10 and she pointed at her daddy.  :)

While we were at the school, we walked through Shelby’s hallway and saw some of her writing and drawings displayed on the wall.

Isn’t it amazing what and how well KINDERGARTNERS are writing?!?  And her teacher just goes on and on about Shelby’s artistic abilities.

I Looooove how she drew the cowgirl in some pink chaps, with boots and a rope and a cactus with pink flowers…serious little details!  She is saying “Yeha Amigos”  Haha!!!

“If I were a cowgirl I would ride a horse to cacht some catll and to bring them to the fild and lat them eat the grras.  I love my horse”

“If I were president I would [help] the earth be good and healthy”

Thank you Nonnie and Poppy for coming to the program and for dinner before!!

Our first 2011 Trip to Six Flags

This was back on January 4th.

Our kids LOVE riding rides and are pretty fearless…or so I thought until we got Shelby on the Judge Roy Scream for the first time this year.  It’s the first time we’ve been that both kids were tall enough for a “real” roller coaster.

This is the one:

It’s a pretty tame roller coaster, but riding it with Shelby for her first time made me see it in a whole new light.  That, and I haven’t ridden a big coaster in 2 years!  Once we got to the top of that first hill and started going down (where the red coaster is in the picture,) Shelby started panicing saying, “I don’t think I’m ready for this!  I don’t think I’m ready for this!” over and over.  As we went into the descent MY tummy turned upside down and I thought, “Whoa yeah this is a big deal!!”  Then what usually seems like a very short ride seemed to go on forever as Shelby said, “I don’t like this!  I don’t like this!”  Poor girl!  She didn’t cry or anything but it was just too much for her at that point!  Totally surprised me because she had never been scared of a thing that she’d ridden so far.  Now Coleman and Daddy were in the seat behind us, and when we got off they went and rode it AGAIN because Coledaddy LOVED it!

We rode a lot of rides that day, and hope to figure out some days to beat the crowds and go many more times this year!

Coleman’s first stick people!

This weekend, Coleman finally got into drawing some!  It’s never been one of his interests, so I was very excited to see his stick figures on our front sidewalk.

This is a basketball player, DIRK:

And it reminded me of Shelby’s first stick figure drawing:

Sissy made this page for him.  She made 2 lines of dots and she filled in the first set to show him how.

Shelbyism

Did you know that the first "Shelbyism" I documented on this blog was in August 2007?  My, how time has flown and her little quips have changed!  Today's shows how grown up she is becoming! (Aka how much trouble we're in as she becomes a tween/teen someday....)  ;)
Last night, I picked out Shelby's clothes (a new dress) for tomorrow as she was lying on her bed reading.  She saw the dress and smiled.  Then she saw the shoes.  She was disappointed when I put her turquoise Converse tennies with it (no sandals allowed at school.) I told her that I have been looking for her some better non-sandal shoes to wear to school, but for now those would have to do and that was that.
As I was kissing her goodnight I said, "You are going to look so cute tomorrow!" and she replied, "Yeah except those SHOES aren't gonna do anything for me!"
