Hello My Name is Shelby, and I Like to do Drawrings!

She LOVED her drawing class, which she took at the NRH Rec center.  She’s already asking to take another one.

All the drawings she did were from a sample that they were to replicate- and they all look familiar to me, maybe known pieces of art?  If you know what they are let me know!  It would be cool to show the original for comparison.

I think she did an AMAZING job free-handing and then coloring these little pieces of art.

Cool, Neato Cole-Buddy

Coleman is seriously a crack-up these days.  These are just a few things I wrote down- all happened on Sunday morning when he and I were the only ones up.  It is always fun and interesting talking to this buddy and I wish I remembered to write stuff down more often!

First, he came into our room, crawled into our bed, and said, “Mommy, I popped my nickel!”  (aka knuckle)

Then, we were sitting at the table in the kitchen trying to decide what he wanted for breakfast.

I was asking him, “Do you want cereal?”  “No.
“How bout oatmeal?”  “No, no oakmeal.
“Do you want a bar?”  “CHECK!” (while drawing a check mark in the air with his pointer finger.)
“Check?  What does that mean?”  “It means yes.

Then while sitting there eating his bar, he exclaimed, “Look at Mary!  She's so soggy!”  “She’s soggy?”  “Yeah, it means she’s wet.

Looking under the table:  “Awww, that's too creepy under there!

And one more thing he says wrong…He and Shelby are into “copying” one another, you know, because they’re siblings and they like to annoy each other.  Coleman calls it “coffeeing” as in “Shelby stop COFFEEING ME!!!

I saw him playing with his cars the other day and he was mumbling to himself, “Remember the consequences.

I will end with a video of the little man.

The End of “Summer”

Well, the summer schedule has wrapped up and although we are on day 8 of 100+ degree temps here in DFW, our “summer” is over.

I have started my new schedule, where I get off at 2:00 every day (except Friday) and I LOVE it.  I get off and I feel like I still have the whole day!  Just this week Jeff started his new schedule, which is FIVE days a week- no more 3 day weekends for him, poor poor guy!  (I told him I have no sympathy! haha)  Jeff’s new schedule will allow him to go in at 9am so that he can take both kids to school, allowing me to go into work super-early, getting off in time to pick Shelby up from Kindergarten.  That was something that was very important to me, and we are so very blessed to have my work be so understanding and accommodating (they changed the schedule rules just for me!) and Jeff’s work allow him to change his schedule just when we needed him to.

Cole started school yesterday, and the countdown to August 23rd (the first day of kindergarten) is on.  Next week we have Shelby’s Meet the Teacher night.  Yesterday we went shopping for her school supplies.  She picked out her own 6 folders, and of course she found ones with pictures of puppies and kittens on them.  No bright colors and designs for this little animal lover!

Saturday we had a girls’ day with Gram, who wanted to take Shelby for her school haircut and a new outfit for school.

First was the haircut at Sweet N Sassy and they did a wonderful job.  That place gets 2 thumbs up from us, for birthday parties too!

Next we went to Crazy 8 and Shelby picked out a new outfit- a denim skirt and a shirt with (what else but?) a HORSE on it.

After lunch at Chick-Fil-A, we wore Shelby out at a couple more stores before heading home to relax- shopping in this Texas heat is tough!!!

Thank you Gram for a wonderful day!

When we got home Shelby enjoyed some Rummikub with Daddy. The girl cannot get enough of playing games these days!  She is CONSTANTLY begging us to play something with her- Rummikub, Uno, Crazy 8, Go Fish, Connect 4, and Candyland are some of her favorites.

And that Mary dog is never far away…

All in a Day's Work

I am not exactly proud of our kids' little mouths sometimes.  Our children are very well-behaved most of the time...  You know, when they're getting their way and when they're happy.  ;)  Other times it is a challenge and it is always a work in progress.  We are always working to teach them respect and how to talk to others.  Coleman is repeating a lot of what Shelby says, which I'm sure is a common issue with younger siblings!

So, onto some little "NoNo"s...

M: "Coleman how 'bout you be still and rest for a little bit?"
C's quick reply: "How 'bout NO?!"  (as opposed to his usual answer when I ask him "Ok?" and he says, "Nokay!")

When I was trying to get Shelby to clean her room:
S: "WHY?!  It's not like anyone is coming over to our house!!"

Nonnie told Coleman to go put something back upstairs, and he wasn't listening so she had to start counting.  He took off to put it up and when he came back downstairs he said, "Okay, Grumpy! I put it up!"

We are getting a lot of "FINE!"s and door slams from our little diva.  For some reason I thought the hormonal attitude wouldn't start for at least a few more years.

Lost and Found

It’s time for a picture recap of some of our summer!  (The parts just before and just after my camera was lost!)

A while back Shelby came in all dressed in her Halloween costume from last year- she had even done her own make-up!  Haha!

I like little comparisons…July 10 to October 09 (the main difference I see are the self-imposed rosy cheeks!)

Also in July we went to have a sleepover at Gram & Grandpa’s house for 4th of July.  The kids had a water balloon fight in the backyard with Daddy and Aunt Jen.  I stayed dry and took the pictures.

This is a peek into our lives in TEN short years from now.  These 2 on the street together…It scares me!

DSC_2040

It stormed that night so we decided to stay home and not go see fireworks, then the next day (the actual 4th) Coleman got sick and we had to stay home too.  So this year our only 4th of July fireworks viewing was the July 2nd fireworks at the Rangers game.

We have spent a LOT of time in Nonnie and Poppy’s pool this summer.

Coleman got his fins back and is swimming like a pro again (he was hesitant at the beginning of the summer.)

I walked in one day since Shelby had gone in from the pool and she was in doing the dishes without being asked to.

One day they did the 30 Day Shred (Level 3, haha!) with Aunt Anna

And last week Tyler got a new puppy.  We found her at a local animal shelter, making me VERY happy that he rescued instead of buying a dog!  She is the sweetest thing ever

She and Mary wrestle around and play together a LOT.  The kids love her too of course!

Just wook at dat sweet face!

Finally, on Saturday, Coleman decided to help Daddy mow the yard.  He happily drove around with him for the whole time.  In his underwear.

Oh and we’ve had a few barbecues too!
