Back in May, Jeff and I were itchin’ to go to San Antonio to the riverwalk and to use our 6 Flags Season Passes at Fiesta Texas. I went online and started looking at hotels for our birthday weekend. I went on priceline where you can “bid” on a hotel and put in a really low bid just to see what they told me. Well, the bid ($50 /night for 2 nights) was immediately accepted. (You have to put in your credit card info and commit to buy if your bid is accepted.) I was shocked! I was on the phone with Jeff and I said, “Well I guess we’re going! Hotel is paid for!”
It was the kids’ first trip to San Antonio. We left Friday morning and drove straight to Fiesta Texas.
We spent the day riding rides (and lots of soaking water rides!) It was a blast and there were NO lines. It was a little hot but there was plenty of wind, so it was a great day.

We left the park after about 4-5 hours that flew by, and checked into our hotel. The hotel was SO nice! It was a couple short blocks to the Alamo and the River walk.
We had a little bit of rest time and then got showered and dressed for dinner.
Daddy was the camera man for most of this trip :)
We went to El Mercado to eat at Mi Tierra. I remember eating at this restaurant every time we went through San Antonio on youth mission trips, which was several years!
Mi Tierra is a restaurant and bakery (panaderia)…Shelby was in heaven :)
These dudes sang “La Cucaracha” to us. Jeff told them it was my birthday that weekend but then Shelby yelled, “It’s Daddy’s birthday too"!” and they just laughed. I think they thought we were just kidding with them ;)

We had a wonderful (and silly) family dinner!
I love my happy kiddos so much!
We were exhausted from a long day and headed back to the hotel for bedtime.
The next morning was Saturday, Daddy’s birthday!! We got up and ready for the waterpark (part of Fiesta Texas.) I did a last minute check online to find that the waterpark portion didn’t open until noon! So we spent a couple of hours walking and exploring the river walk.
We had a few great hours at the Fiesta Texas waterpark before deciding to head back to the hotel before we all got too tired. On the way out, we saw Scooby!

Again we had a rest at the hotel, a nice shower, and headed out to walk and explore the city.

We walked past a fire station, where a fire man came out and invited us in to see the big engine! He lifted the kids right up in there.
This is Coleman’s little shy face where he’s trying to hide his delight :)

On to the Alamo! We were watching a horse sneeze here. Shelby was cracking up.
Walking around the grounds of the Alamo, Shelby came up with many poses for us.

Here, with her hands on her hips, she is instructing me how to pose. I love how Cole’s just doing his own thing here!
And here’s the pose. Fancy, huh? Shelby’s not even looking at the camera because she’s making sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to do.
My boy will find things to climb and jump on anywhere!
Air Coleman!
We then headed down underground to the River Walk to find a place to eat on a patio!
(cool mosaic, minus the scaffolding)
We ate at The Iron Cactus. The food was good, the drinks were interesting, and the waiter was great.
The birthday boy!!! :)
Here, Coleman showed me “These are mine. We need more chips.”
We headed back up to the street after dinner.

Shelby wanted to stop and take this picture to pretend they were in jail. She said, “We can put it on facebook!”
Shelby begged and begged the entire trip to go on this horse buggy ride. Finally we told her that if she wanted to pay for it with some of her leftover birthday money, then that was fine. Of course, she had no problem with that.
We were excited to get a white horse, named Diamond.

The ride lasted 20 minutes, which was plenty long.
As we were nearing the end of the ride, we saw that we were passing our hotel. Jeff told the driver so she just dropped us off right at the front door! :)
Bye Diamond!

The next morning we slept in, enjoyed the hotel’s breakfast, and headed out for our 4 hour drive home. Happy birthday to me :)
Bye, San Antonio…until next time!!
