Weekly Fitness 2/21-2/26

Well, WE DID IT!
I completed the Cowtown 10k race with a time I was very happy with!

Luke, Millie, Jeff and I all ran and I am so glad to have some GREAT people to do this with.  Just look at Luke & Mill’s times…awesome!  And Jeff who hasn’t really trained at all did and an outstanding job, of course I gave him a hard time that since he only beat me by 2 minutes he could have run WITH me! :)  We missed Anna who had to be in training all day that day…but she will join us next time I’m sure!

Here’s my weekly fitness detail.  My 2 short runs leading up to the race left much to be desired.  I was having a very difficult time breathing, and really bad “side stitch” cramps (probably from the shallow breathing.)  So bad that I had to stop short on that 2nd run.  I think it was b/c I ran out of Zyr*tec so for 2 days my body was open to allergy threats :)  That zyr*tec is a serious life saver for me!

We got to the race only about 10 minutes before start time because I had left Millie & Luke’s bibs at mom and dad’s house for them, but they didn’t know it so when they picked us up at our house, we had to go back up to their house to get them.  If you know me you know being late to anything (NO matter what it is!) makes me a complete basketcase so I was very nervous before the race.  Of course we made it in time but NOT in time for me to use the bathroom, so that was a bit of a hurdle during the race!

After the race, the only area with a long crowded line all around the expo was the beer truck line.  Cracked me up!  I heard a guy say “Look at all these drinkers with a running problem.”  So so true.  I guess we earned it ;)
The end :)

Out of the mouths

If you haven't noticed yet, so many of our great conversations happen in the car (the #1 reason why we do NOT watch movies unless we are on a long trip.)  Their little minds and mouths are free to flow when their little bodies are strapped down. :)
Like this, yesterday:

M: "Guys look up at the sky...see how the sun beams are coming down through the clouds?  They are so bright and you can see the rays of sunshine.  Isn't it pretty?"
Shelby: "Yes, it's like God's speaking to someone!"
Coleman: "Did you know that God is a burning tree?"

:)

The Boys’ Trip to Lubbock

This year Jeff decided that he wanted to take Coleman with him to the annual Baseball Letterman’s weekend at Tech (last year we all went!)  As we all know, it would be hard to deny Coleman an opportunity to see his UNCLE TY TY and Jeff really wanted to include him in the TTU baseball experience where he spent so many hours and days and month and years!

They left on Friday early afternoon, driving to Lubbock with Jeff’s friend and old teammate Matt Kastelic, who flew into DFW from California just for the occasion.  On Friday night they had an alumni dinner in the team’s field house/locker room, and then Jeff and Coleman left to see TyTy and Laura (aka “Lorla.”)

On Saturday they were up and at the field early for batting practice before the games.  They play an “old timers” game followed by the big game in which the Alumni (presumably, the younger, more-in-shape alumni, haha) play against this year’s Texas Tech baseball team.  I know Jeff played in the alumni game but I think he played in both games (I’m not sure.)  The highlights were that he got a hit  and he struck out one of the really good batters on this year’s team in the alumni game.  Obviously I don’t listen well enough to reiterate the details here! :)  Coleman got to hang out in the dugout, and around the field.

Tyler and Laura came to help with and hang out with Coleman during the games (THANK YOU so much guys!!)

After the game, Jeff and Coleman closed the field down with a LOT of running and batting and playing time on the field.

Saturday evening Jeff got to go out to dinner and hang out with old friend while Tyler and Laura babysat Coleman.  Man the perks of having a brother-in-law attend your alma-mater, huh?! :)  Built in out of town babysitting is quite nice.  Thank you again Ty Ty and Lorla!  Coleman had a wonderful time and still talks about the baseball game, playing on the field, and hanging out with his uncle.

A Special Lunch

One day in January when Mimi, Grumpy, and aunt Jana were all in town, they decided to go eat lunch with Shelby at school.  What a special treat for her!  Do you think there are many kids who have had their GREAT grandparents and GREAT aunt bring them lunch and eat with them in their school cafeteria?  Shelby is a very lucky and loved little girl!!!

Aunt Jana sent me some pictures.

Aunt Anna went too!

Thank you guys so much!  She enjoyed it so much and now we have picture memories too :)

Weekly Fitness 2/14

Well this week was good- the long run was good.  It was OUTSIDE and not bad, which is amazing for me.  :)  Jeff and the kids went with me but the kids were not ok staying put for that long in the stroller/trailer, so Jeff ended up having to stop a lot and let them out.  Shelby jogged a bit of the trail with me :)

Jeff is running the 10k with me (this Saturday!) and so last night he took off after we put the kids to bed, to run the same route as Saturday “just to make sure he could do it.”  Of course, he did it, and so did Mary!

This week is a pretty easy week (just 2 short runs!) and bright and early Saturday morning is the Cowtown 10k.  Millie and Luke are running it with us as well, and Nonnie and Poppy are coming over to watch the kids and cook us all a big ol’ breakfast for when we get home.  After that I think I’ll take a nap :)
