Christmas II

Christmas Eve it snowed.  SNOWED!  It was so pretty!

  

Shelby wouldn’t stop eating the snow.

We waited for Jeff to get home from work (they let him off early because of the weather) and then we drove to Nonnie & Poppy’s house for dinner, our traditional home video watching, and Christmas karaoke.

Dinner was Italian (fettuccini alfredo and spaghetti with meatballs) homemade by Nonnie and it was AMAZING!

We headed home with the kids in time for putting cookies out for Santa and a good night’s sleep for the kiddos.  Shelby often comes into our room during the night but she told me “If I wake up during the night I will listen for a HO HO HO before I get out of bed and if I hear a HO HO HO I will stay in bed.”

Since the kids had been sleeping in until about 8:30 on our Christmas Break from school, we planned for the big Jones fam to show up by 8 am to get there before the kids woke up and to see them get their gifts that Santa had left.  When we were little we always stayed in our rooms until everyone was ready (Dad always took FOREVER setting up the video camera.)  I guess we forgot to tell Shelby this rule….

It was about 8:05 when I was in the kitchen on the phone with Nonnie as she was telling me they were almost there, when I saw a FLASH run by me.  Shelby had sprinted from her room straight to the living room as fast as she could.  She then excitedly yelled to us that he did come, because the cookies were eaten and the milk had been drunk.  She was so excited about that that she didn’t even notice the presents sitting out (Santa doesn’t wrap!)  I had to tell her to look around and see what Santa had left for her.  She loved it.

Santa left Cole a new “omputa” but he was most excited about the train set that Mommy and Daddy had stayed up gluing on his train table the night before.

 

When the whole fam got to our house, the gift opening commenced.

    The joy on the faces of Shelby and Coleman just made this the best Christmas so far.  Their anticipation and excitement is just the best!

After all the gift-giving was finished, we ate a wonderful Christmas morning breakfast, then bid Mill and Luke a SAFE farewell as they headed off the the blizzard in Oklahoma.  Soon after, everyone else left and we got to enjoy a little nap before heading up to Gram and Grandpa’s house!

Sticky words

Last night Shelby got interested in the TV while I was watching the Biggest Loser. She was asking why those people were working out like that and yelling and crying. So I told her that they were doing it because they hadn't been healthy and were trying to get healthy again. Of course she noticed how big they were, but I certainly didn't say that they were fat---but then all of a sudden she says, "Mommy, you're fat! Get in that TV and ride that bike with them because you're fat." She was giggling like she thought it was funny but I told her that is NOT funny and we don't ever call people that word.
Then we notice Cole is on the other side of the living room and has heard a new "bad word" so he runs up to me smiling and yelling "Mommy you're fat!!!" I told him not to say that and we dropped it.

Fast forward to this morning. I'm fixing Shelby's hair and Cole starts yelling, "Mommy you're fat!" Shelby says, "Oh my gosh! I can't believe he remembers that! Maybe he dreamed about it or something!"

I was thinking the same thing...can't believe he remembered. It's amazing how sticky those "bad words" are.

Christmas Part I

We went to Northwest Arkansas the weekend before Christmas.  I took a total of 4 pictures.  Two of them were on the way home:

The night before we left (seriously- like 9pm Friday night) we bought a new (to us) car.  It was one of the easiest car buying processes ever- so props to Bankston Nissan in Dallas.  Nice guys, very little BS, and not so into haggling!

In true style, I’ll have to do a post all about the new ride… It has all we wanted and needed.  Three rows, leather, sunroof, dvd system with wireless headphones, dual climate control, etc.  I feel so luxury in it after driving a true SUV for the past 3 years!  I feel like I’m driving on clouds! :)

So we left early Saturday morning equipped with plenty of movies for the almost-7-hour trip.  The kids were great.

While in Arkansas, we enjoyed tons of family time and getting to see the 2 newest additions to the family again (met them for the first time in August.)  Ava and Cameron- such cuties but totally make Shelby and Cole look like the BIG BIG kids which is totally weird to me!

The kids were so spoiled with great gifts and great family time!

We got to spend lots of time with Mimi and Grumpy and Uncle Scott- we even all stayed up until like 2am playing PROGRESSIVE RUMMY at the dining table like the olden’ days.  Fun fun fun. :)
