Kidisms
A week later, Shelby got a birthday card in the mail from Gram. In it was a check for $100. In all seriousness, she said, "Mommy I know what I want to buy with that money." She was very proud. "I want to buy us that house from the computer."
That sweet girl wanted to use ALL her birthday money to buy us a house that I told her cost too much for us. When I told her how sweet she was but that wasn't enough, she started brainstorming of other places we could find money to use, and how much more we needed.
Last night the kids played outside while I cooked dinner. When they came in I told them to wash their hands as usual because they had been playing in the mud.
Coleman walked up to me, his hands fully brown, and said, "But Mommy! I don't have any mud on me! Just dirt."

Our Interesting Kiddos
Shelby is currently working on her end-of-the-year kindergarten stuff. They are doing a time capsule next week- one that they will seal and bring home, to be opened when she’s done with 5th grade. Yesterday a book came home with many pages for her to fill up with her favorite stuff, things to do, and pictures of herself and her house/room, etc. I already know we’ll smile and laugh when we open the page where she put that her “Favorite thing to do is…” EAT CUPCAKES. :)
However, this girl is FAR from unhealthy. I had to laugh when I was making her lunch last night (something that Daddy usually does each morning)…I asked her what she wanted, and was able to fulfill her entire request: A boiled egg, tomatoes, sweet pickles, and a “pinwheel” wrap with turkey, cheese, and SPINACH by request. I’m pretty sure I didn’t eat most of that stuff at 6 years old…and don’t eat some of it now (tomatoes and boiled eggs…yuck!) She got her favorite, strawberries, for dessert!
Now on to Coleman…
Last night, Jeff went in to check on him 20 minutes or more after putting him to bed and saw that he had opened his blinds, so he went to close them. Coleman (wide awake) whined something about how he couldn’t "see the game" which confused Jeff so he took a peek out the window and sure enough, Cole had been watching the Mavs. He's in a top bunk and with our front door open, he has a perfect view. I can't even imagine how long this has been going on! Our huge Mavs/Dirk fan!!!

Crusty
Silly Coleman
On the way home from school today:
S: We love school!
C: Sometimes I don't love school because I miss my mommy and daddy and grandma and pawpaw.
M: Grandma and Pawpaw?! Who's that?
C: It's Nonnie and Poppy! (duh)
S: Oh I thought you meant Gram and Grandpa.
C: No Shelby! They are Matthew's grandparents!!
He was watching Star Wars and I was doing laundry:
C: Mommy! Can you turn the washing machine down? I can't hear!!

Huntin, Dancin, Pettin, and Partyin
In the last post I forgot to mention Coleman’s summer activities. While the 4 year olds don’t get to leave the facility (thank goodness!) they do have a ton of fun planned for them this summer. Coleman will go to Spanish classes, cooking club, and computer lab weekly. All the weekly themes are things that he will love like Space, and then different parts of the world and the animals that live there.
This past weekend Shelby had her first dance on stage at the city’s Easter in the Park festival. But first, they did an egg hunt.
They were broken up into age groups so I went with Shelby and Daddy went with Coleman.
Shelby was very dainty and poised as she hunted her eggs. Already feeling “too cool” for this?? I don’t know!!
Coledaddy had fun!
After the egg hunt, we headed over to the stage to wait for Shelby’s turn to dance.
Once on stage, she put on the shy face.
But then she got the moves going :)
After the dance, we ran into the Easter bunny on our way to the petting zoo.
The 3 amigos cousins: Shelby, Coleman, and Matthew
We headed across the street from the festival to Nonnie and Poppy’s house for some hot dogs, cake, and swimming to celebrate Shelby’s birthday.
The kids swam, the adults enjoyed the sun and the Rangers game on the back patio.
Since we went to DisneyWorld, we did not have a big party for Shelby’s birthday. I offered her $50 or a party, and she chose $50, which she spent all in one fell swoop at Hobby Lobby buying craft stuff and 4 little Ty beanie animals. Before accepting our $50 offer, she made sure we could still have a party with family, and that she could have a tiered cake and a pinata. Done, done and done!
Now, on to her six year doctor visit stats:
Weight: 54.7 lbs (88%)
Height 46.5” (72%)
She only gained 1.5 lbs but 2.25 inches in a year. We watched our little girl stretch out and lose some of that sweet wittle chubs this year!
Her hearing and eyesight were fine, and the peeing in a cup was much less dramatic this year. A sure sign that she is, indeed, growing up! haha :)
Mid-April
I can’t believe we’re more than halfway through April!
We’re already knee-deep in making summer plans! I have a very intricate calendar full of what the kids will be doing each day. On average, they will spend 2 days a week with Nonnie, 2 days at a summer academy, and Fridays with MOMMY!!! At the academy, Shelby’s age group gets to go on a ton of field trips. I am nervous but excited for her opportunities. Some of the plans include:
Museum of Science & History
All-American Teddy Bear
Sealife Aquarium
Lego Discovery Center
Glass Blowing class
Movies to see Cars 2
Movies to see The Smurfs
Putt-Putt
Bowling
Skating Rink
Yogurt places and Cici’s pizza
Isn’t that great!? They are also taking the group to Sandylake, NRH2O, Bedford Splash, and Keller Pointe to swim but I am just not comfortable with those big open places for her without us…yet. So on those days she will stay at Nonnie’s.
It certainly already FEELS like summer here in North Texas. Yesterday, April 18, it got up to 94 degrees. I sure hope that’s not a hint at how our actual summer will be! On the bright side, Nonnie and Poppy’s pool is heatin’ up! Of course our little missy (my polar bear) has already been in the pool many times!
The first weekend in April we were planning on going camping, but let those plans fall through. Instead, we stayed home and spent most of the day Saturday at Six Flags.
Batman showed Coleman how to pose:
Cool dudes!!!
Another thing keeping us busy is SOFTBALL. I think Sissy is still having fun. I do think playing with 7 and 8 yr olds is tough on us all! But she’s hopefully soaking a little bit of it in and learning some things. She certainly has a great swing!

She is Six
She made me a mommy exactly six years, 2 hours, and 8 minutes ago.
7 pounds, 14 ounces, and 20 inches of perfection.
She is so pretty.
She fills my thoughts every day, and keeps me smiling all through them.
She has taught me more than I ever thought I’d need to know about patience, and love, and innocence, and what “wearing your heart outside of your body” is all about.
She tells me that she’ll always be my baby girl.
Last night, I asked her to please not turn 6 yet, and she laughed and said that she had to because that’s how God made it work, “but I’ll still be your little girl,” she reminded me.
“Baby girl,” I corrected.
“Yep, baby girl” she agreed, as she kissed my forehead.
SHE calls ME Mommy. I am so blessed.
Isn’t she lovely?
Thank you Heavenly Father, for giving us this angel to love.

The Peck Fam is Alive and Well!!
Well, friends and family. This blog is in a slump! This mommy is overwhelmed!
We got back from Disney World and haven’t stopped moving since. So, what has been keeping us so busy?
Well, we spent some time at Millie and Luke’s house for a cookout and sleepover.
Daddy did piggy tails for the first time. He sent me an email when he got to work: “I took my first shot at pigtails on Shelby today. I think they turned out all right.” I have to admit, I was worried. ;) I picked her up and they STILL looked SO good!!!
Daddy’s first pigtails (followed by Mommy’s first pigtails:) heehee!
Shelby has begun softball for the second year. This takes up 2 nights a week and is proving to be fun and stressful altogether. She is “playing up” on an 8 & under team because they didn’t have enough girls to form a whole 6 & under division. She is the ONLY 5 year old (and there are no 6 year olds) on her team. She is doing well, but we are noticing some maturity issues. She begs the coach about where to play, and whines a bit more than the other girls, has a little less attention span and climbs in the dugout … all things we probably wouldn’t notice so much if all the other girls were doing the same…yet they are all second graders and just a little more, hmmmm….controlled? Mommy needs to sit away from the dugout, remember that she’s years behind the other girls, and LET HER HAVE FUN! I am a stressball during her games worrying about her paying attention and acting right!
She has been begging to play catcher and she has gotten to try it out a couple of times already…This is real girl-fast-pitch softball so catching is quite a job that she will have to work on if she actually does want to do it. Here is is catching- #9 … SO stinkin cute!!!
In case you don’t know, I was catcher all through high school so what a proud moment this was! :)
Here is her team- the Sluggers!
We have already had a little bit of pool (but mostly hot tub) time.
Last weekend Daddy played in a golf tournament with Poppy, Luke, and uncle Randy while we girls (and Coledaddy) had a day by the pool.
Daddy and I took Coleman to the Texas Rangers 5th game of the season, where their record became 5 – 0.
Our seats were up high but I really like these seats, right behind home (upper deck!) where you can see everything happen. Plus, you can’t beat that we got a $5 per seat deal to see the reigning AL Champs in their opening week!
(Shelby had a sleepover with Nonnie and Anna that night since it was a school night.)
What else?????
We found a school for the kids to attend 2 days a week this summer. They go on field trips (Shelby’s age only) and have a ton of summer fun planned for each of their classes. Shelby begged to start going there already so she got to try it out one day last week for after-school care. She liked it.
In 3 days THIS baby girl turns SIX.
How old will she be when I stop crying on and near her birthdays? 9? 12? 15? Surely she’ll be jerky enough by then that I won’t cry right? :) For now, the tears start when I even THINK about it. So I won’t…I’m at work and I shouldn’t be crying here.
So, today is Friday and coming up we have a weekend full of family time including Six Flags and some church! In the next month we have a dance performance at the city Easter festival, a family birthday cookout for Shelbs (no party this year- she took the $50 I offered her and ran with it!) :) … A trip to Arkansas, and a trip to Lubbock to see Uncle TyTy graduate college, Shelby’s “big” dance recital, and hopefully a camping weekend thrown in there. We have yet to go camping this year!!
