Tonight while kissing Shelby goodnight in bed:
S: "Mommy! Can you turn around so I can see if your back is peelin'?"
M: "I'm not peelin right now baby. Maybe next year."
S: "I want you to get sunburned so I can peel your back again."
Like mother (picker), like daughter.

Yet's Go Rangers!!!!
Monday night we headed out to the Ballpark in Arlington to see the Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers.
Since Shelby was in a horrible mood and doesn't really care if she goes to a game or not, she stayed with Nonnie and Poppy and we took our little baseball fan Coleman to the game with us.
We met Jessica and Jason there, who had a babysitter...DATE NIGHT at the Ballpark!!! :)
The boys:
Jason, Cole, Jeff

Coleman seriously sat in that chair about 85% of the game. He was SOOOO good. Funny how kids act so much better when they're sibling isn't around. Talk about partners in crime!!
Our seats were pretty good, especially for $10!
Me & Jess: (She's FUN)

Buddy and me, he only came to see me once or twice.
I think my multiple chins scared him away?? :

Joe's parents minus Joe

Just buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks!!!! (Check, check!)

It sprinkled on us a little but it was a nice night.
We rode the free shuttle from Sherlock's to the game and back. On the way back, the bus was FULL of people sitting and standing and Cole kept standing up on Daddy's lap, looking around and yelling, "YET'S GO RANGERS!!!!" at the top of his lungs and then all these people did the CLAP-- CLAP--- CLAP CLAP CLAP!!! It was cute :)

Dame un besito!!!
Yesterday when I got home Cole ran to me and I picked him up. Brianda (our sitter) told him "Mama dar un besito" and he grabbed my face and kissed me. I was stunned! It took me a minute to think about what she had said to him b/c she talks FAST. I said, "Wow, he knows that?" "Yep!" she said.
So all night I told him about a million times "Dame un besito" and I got a million kisses.
So cool.
I've been doing simple things with him that he knows now.
"Toque su nariz" - he touches his nose.
"Toque su boca" - he touches his mouth.
"Toque su pelo" - he touches the top of his head (hair)
"Toque sus ojos" - he touches his eyes.
So I tried something else yesterday just for grins. I said, "Sientese en la silla." and he walked over to the chair and sat down. :) Later I said it and he yelled, "NO I don't wanna sit!!!"
I did ask Brianda to please teach them any Spanish she desired as she kept them this summer, and it looks like she has been. He says that he had "Sopa y polla" (Chicken soup) for lunch. They count to 15 in Spanish when they play Hide N Seek.
Love it!

Jeff gave Shelby the last yogurt drink. Cole saw her with it.
Cole: "I wan a yogurt drink!!"
Shelby: "Coleman! Sorry to tell you this, bud. They're all gone."

Quick Cole update
They called with his test results. The stool was normal (they were looking for an infection.) All the blood tests were good except the CRP levels were elevated. This means inflammation and the colonoscopy is set. It will be the Tuesday (August 11) after Millie's wedding, unless I reschedule it. He will have to start the Mag citrate on Saturday night (wedding?!), and take it Sunday and Monday. Monday he will have to go all day on jello and popsicles only. That should be fun. :(
In the past couple of weeks I have found out that my uncle (on Dad's side) and my Nana (on Mom's side) had Ulcerative Colitis as a toddler/young kid. And my Mimi (Dad's side) had severe ulcerative colitis about 15-20 years ago and lost her entire colon. So yeah, it runs in the family!

NOLA part 1
Well I've been playing around with some of my NOLA pictures in Photoshop just for fun.
I've done about 20-something and am ready to get something posted!
Don't worry, I don't pretend to think I'm a pro photo editor or pro photo taker for that matter! But the memories are good, and it's a fun little way to show them off :)
First off here is the whole gang! This picture was from dinner Saturday night.
The lovely lady at the top is my mom.
Then L to R:
Elizabeth (Millie's college friend)
Millie
Me
Lindsey (Millie's high/middle/elem? school friend)
Anna
Allison up top (Millie's college friend)
Lacey (Luke's sister)
And let me tell you, this is a fun bunch of girls!

Ok, day 1:
Plane

Our bride getting off the plane

Anna hoppin into the limo!

Mom, me, Anna waiting in the limo

We got all checked in at the hotel
We got our first big ol Hurricane and walked ALL THE WAY down Decatur for a Muffallata from Central Grocery, just to find this:

Boooo!
So we ate at some other place outside instead.

This was a pretty interesting sight. I think they dug right through to the Mississippi river! ;) These guys in the water were diving down (no mask or goggles or anything) to try to stop the "leak."

Shopping happens.

Later, we lounged by the shady pool area. The pool was on the 5th floor, but was surrounded by sky-rise buildings, so there really wasn't any sun on it. It was nice and cool/breezy!

Self portrait (I was trying to be like Lacey. She's the self portrait queen.)
Lacey says if you take them enough you'll start to figure out your good angles and like yourself. I need lots of practice!

That night we went to dinner at Bourbon House, a rec from my friend Nikki, a NOLA native!

Who's missing in this picture?

Anna! There she is!

I went from making sure to order COOKED fish as a sushi newbie to getting this pas-seared tuna. It was YUM though!

Anna made a little friend.

And then ate him.
Lacey and Beth...pretty girls!

Nummm.

Our pretty bride enjoying a Wedding Cake Martini.

Mom and me- something was funny?

Mill and Lins.

More from Saturday night and Sunday to come!

Mr. Bobby does it again
Once again I have to give MAJOR props to Mr. Bobby, our amazing swimming instructor! :)
Cole has become quite the little swimmer, after FOUR 30-minute private sessions. (He didn't go the day he was running a high fever.)
Seriously...29 months old...swimming...floating all on his own. Nice!!!
Jumping in and swimming across the pool:
Floating for a long time (and not exactly happy about it...but he does it!)

Buddy boy on his big boy blue bike!!!
Cole kept asking for a "blue bike." One day Jeff called me from Academy and said they had a blue bike 12" for like $20 so of course I told him to get it.
Now Cole is his own little riding machine. He looks so cool wearing his blue batman helmet and riding his bike with Sissy!!!

He loves it. "I don't wanna go home Mommy!!!"

Sissy's tag says "2FAST 4U" and that's oh so true!

Catching up with pictures
The other night as dinner was about to be served, Shelby walked in looking like this.

Look at this face. So proud! She had on Mommy's boots, my little purse, and had put a headband in her hair. All dressed for dinner!

(Who needs pants??)
Saturday Jeff smoked his first brisket---and was very brave to have about 15 people over to serve it to! (And we barely had enough)
While Shelby and Mommy went shopping with Nana, Jan, and Nonnie, Cole helped Daddy cook and do yard work.

As we were getting ready for people to show up for dinner, Shelby decided to get herself all ready again. She's such a GIRL!
She walked in so proud, looking for shoes to go with her outfit. So I let her wear her fancy "wedding shoes."

Next is Shelby's photoshoot with Millie and Luke, who were the first to arrive for dinner (and THAT is a first!) :) heehee

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This picture is dark and bad but Shelby had put Mary into her tent, and was trying to barricade her in with chairs and pillows.
Here's some of the bunch that were over on Saturday night.
And here's the yummy sangria. Some people are calling it my new specialty :)
We caught Papa G with a smile and Cole's Rangers hat on. Since his cataract surgery recently, no glasses for him!!!
And finally, this is the pout that someone snapped after they told Cole that Mommy had gone to the store for a minute. My wittle mama's boy!!!
Bloodwork: Check.
Yesterday we went back to the Lab to have Cole's blood drawn (second try.)
Cole was SOOOOoooo good. We talked about it all the way there. He was scared. He didn't want to see "da Yady again." He asked if it would hurt. I told him it would only hurt a little bit if he was VERY still.
The look on his face when he saw da yady was so sad. He felt the doom. But he was so brave and sat right there on my lap, VERY still, and didn't even cry as they poked another needle into him. He told the assistant holding his arm about his blue bike. He told her that she couldn't ride it because she would fall off. (Have I mentioned his new blue bike on here yet?!?!)
The blood came and I was SO relieved. It took a good five minutes or more to fill up all the vials and he was scared but barely whimpered. I have never been so proud in my life. :)
Thank you all again for all the emails and phone calls (and sorry when I haven't returned them!!!) We had family in town this weekend, and everything has just been really busy. I think I'm experiencing some extra stress under the surface because of all these "unknowns" with Cole.
Millie is getting married in 2.5 weeks!!! After that and after these summer work hours, maybe I'll have time to talk on the phone again :) haha. The wedding is going to be BEE-utiful! Can't wait to see my kiddos lead my sis down the aisle, they are all going too look so beautiful...
Love to all.
PS- I don't hate LabCorp anymore. I was impressed. :)
Effs
This morning. Shelby was writing her name. She wrote S, H, and then part of the E, the main line and the top 2 perpendicular lines. Then she stopped and looked up at me.
"I wish I had an F in my name because I love drawing Fs." Then she grinned.
Funny girl!
Cole update
We are back from our morning outing to the pediatric gastroenterologist. As I expected, the visit was uneventful, and we got a "gameplan." What I didn't expect was to have a great looking, tall, young, in-shape English black man wearing designer jeans for our doctor. Whew, he was kinda sexy!!! :)
Anyway, a little off track, let me cool off for a sec :)
The doc wants to do some bloodwork labs and stool samples and if those are all negative for anything, then he will do a colonoscopy. In the stool he is checking for any kind of infection. In the bloodwork, I'm not sure. He seemed to talk like it would come down to a colonoscopy where they will look for polyps (if they find they will remove them) and if they don't find polyps they will take a few biopsies. He didn't think it presents as Meckel's Diverticulum. He did mention ulcerative colitis, which does run in my family. I don't want it to be that. :( And he mentioned Crohn's disease. Man a colonoscopy is gonna be tough---Cole cannot eat for an ENTIRE DAY!!!! That will be miserable. We'll cross that bridge when we get there I guess.
We had a diaper saved from yesterday that we were able to use for the stool sample, and then the phlembotomist at the lab we went to tried to get blood from Cole. Poked him twice, blew a vein, and told us we'd have to come back Monday. UGH!!! I really wish there was some pediatric specialty place (or just do it in the office!) they could send us for that instead of stupid sucky LabCorp. :( When I was pregnant they poked me SEVEN times in one day trying to get blood. That is their job, why do they suck at it??? Yeah I'm just a frustrated Mommy.
So thank you all for the prayers and thoughts- I'll keep the blog updated when anything happens. :)
Prayers for Coleman please
This blog has been quiet, huh?
Well I have a blog or 2 about my Girl's Trip to New Orleans to do, but in the meantime, I want to ask for your thoughts and prayers for our buddy.
I can't remember how much I've mentioned about this on this blog, but Cole had some issues with blood in his stool back in February. We put him on soy milk and it seemed to clear up. Then it came back several weeks ago. The blood isn't the only problem but it's the most alarming. I mean, I don't think this kid has ever had NORMAL poos, but there is no need for detail on that. Anyway...
Last week the doctor (this time we saw his wonderful genius primary phys. vs. the NP this time) was quite shocked by the diaper I brought in as a sample. He said that it wasn't that he didn't at first believe me, but often parents freak out over nothing or tend to exaggerate (which I think they assumed I was doing back in February.) Well, after looking at this diaper from the day before, it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was NOT exaggerating about the red blood. My gut instinct was that he was actually trying to hide his alarm but I hope that isn't the case.
The doc said that there were a hundred tests he could "do or not do" but he just wanted to send him to a GI specialist. He said whatever he did, the specialist would want to re-do, so it was best for Cole to just start there. (He did test for anemia and it came back negative.)
We have our first appt with the specialist on Friday morning. Jeff has the day off. I am sure it will not be an eventful appt, just mainly meeting the doctor and getting his game plan, then scheduling the procedure(s). I am told that Cole will probably have a scope and a rectal exam at least. Probably will be put under (of some sort) for those.
My mom, googler extraordinaire, has diagnosed it as Meckel's Diverticulum. ...which I think would be an ok thing. We'll see! :)
I am relatively calm about this because I just feel like he isn't SICK. He is a brilliant 2 year old, who is in the top percentages for height and weight, and has more energy than I would ever expect. I just feel like it's not going to be something too bad. Don't know if that's Mother's intuition or a defense mechanism until we know what it is...but for now, that's how I feel.
Thanks for keeping our little man in your thoughts and prayers!
PS- We'd love to hear from you! This blog is so special to me (and Jeff) and we'd love to be reminded of who's reading it from time to time.
Thanks and Love (a bushel and a peck full)!!!
4th of July Celebration #2
On Saturday July 4th we went to a fun swim party with good food and great friends.
The Kerrs have such a great set-up for kids to hang out while the adults can also enjoy themselves!---the bounce house and swing set in the yard, and then the gated pool.
Jeffie had a baseball game Saturday morning and was home just in time to head out to the party. We were excited that he was with us and not at a baseball game!!!
Shelby swam some, but wanted to spend most of her time IN the house- you know, all the cool "new" toys are too much fun to pass up!!!
Cole enjoyed swimming, and climbing, and the "Bouncy house!"
The kids got to do some sparklers and we did some other little fireworks. I think their fav were the fountains.
Then, we had a great view of the Mansfield fireworks show.
The Kerrs kindly allowed us to spend the night so we wouldn't have to drive home late with the kids. Ashlyn and Shelby were so excited about their sleepover and both slept in Ashlyn's bed.
Thanks Susan & Trever for a great 4th of July celebration!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday I decided to go ahead and sign Cole up for swim lessons that Shelby did last week...One week private lessons. He will start this coming Monday. My decision was backed up last night when Cole was in the hot tub (being watched but no one was in that part of the pool with him) playing on the step, and stepped off the step, and Uncle Luke had to jump in in his work clothes to get him! We love you Luke!!!
The Kerrs kindly allowed us to spend the night so we wouldn't have to drive home late with the kids. Ashlyn and Shelby were so excited about their sleepover and both slept in Ashlyn's bed.
Thanks Susan & Trever for a great 4th of July celebration!!!
Yesterday I decided to go ahead and sign Cole up for swim lessons that Shelby did last week...One week private lessons. He will start this coming Monday. My decision was backed up last night when Cole was in the hot tub (being watched but no one was in that part of the pool with him) playing on the step, and stepped off the step, and Uncle Luke had to jump in in his work clothes to get him! We love you Luke!!!
