2008 was an amazing and sometimes tough year for us, and we came through it smiling. Jeff lost his job, found a new great one, our baby boy has learned to talk and run and so many other things, and Shelby has continued growing into our little lady. 2008 was also the first year I wasn't pregnant at all since 2003. (Got pg in 04, had her in 05, got pg in 06, had him in 07.) Whew, I was ready for a break!!! :)
To all our family and friends...we hope that all your prayers and dreams come true in 2009. It will be the year of marriages, babies, and much happiness for many of you and we look forward to celebrating with you.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace...
Amen

My cousin-in-law Julie
I told Julie I'd be posting this even though she doesn't read my blog...Sondra you can tell her I did!!!
(Julie and Sondra are my cousins Brandon and Kyle's wives.)
Here is Julie from the back...

And from the side...Surprise!!!

The world's tiniest pregnant lady :)
She started out weighing 84 pounds and now at 37 weeks she weighs 117, a gain of 33 pounds. She's scared she won't get back below 100, since she's never been over that in her life. Seriously y'all, the jeans she's wearing in the above pics are a size 0 (up from her usual 00) and she just has them safety pinned, they're about an inch from buttoning. She showed me her belly- smooth, tan, and NO stretch marks!
She and Brandon will have a baby boy, Cameron, sometime in January!
Good luck guys!

Christmas I
First of all, check out the new layout! Thank you thecutestblogontheblock.com for the background!!!
Before we left on our trip, Nonnie, Poppy and Tyler came over to give the kids their "big" gifts. Cole got an awesome tool bench full of fun stuff (that was too big to take)

Shelby got the Fisher Price Cool School computer which is SO COOL. She loves playing on it.

It hooks up to the real computer and has lots of games and learning activities. She thinks she's so grown up...She even went and grabbed a can of soda since that's what Mommy usually does when she gets on the computer! haha (She didn't even open it.)
The next morning after we were all packed up and waiting at Nonnie and Poppy's house for Poppy to drive up in their new Pimp-mobile (which we lovingly call it!) so we decided to put together Cole's gift from Mill, Anna, and TyTy.

It's a big wheel! He loves it...he's riding it around the kitchen right now! (In the background is Anna's new car!) Everyone's getting new cars except for me....Boohoo! :)
...next, we were off to Beaver's Bend!

Shelbyisms from the trip
I can only remember a couple:
Nonnie, Shelby and Jeff were in the hot tub, and Aunt Jan was sitting out of it. Nonnie was turned talking to Jan and after a while, Shelby said, "Nonnie, WHY are you talking to her instead of playing with us??!?!?"
Millie and Anna were getting some food as Shelby watched. She said, "Don't take it all ladies!!!"
Throughout the weekend as she needed to get people's attention she would yell, "Ladies and Gentlemen!!!" Must be something they say at school :)

We're home!!!!
Our trip was long and awesome! I have lots of pictures to go through. We had a perfect Christmas and got to see SOOO much family.
This is a pretty horrible quality picture but it does show the group of family we had at Mimi's...

Day 5 and Pictures!
As I mentioned, I got to have a great dinner with friends on Thursday night. The food at Fireside Pies is better than I even expected (and I've been there a few times.) We all shared the snow crab appetizers, the Fireside Fondue (the best!), a light and crispy pizza, and a cheese salad. (Huge and yummy!) But best of all, of course, is girl talk! We all got to escape (lovingly) from our sick kids, exhausting jobs, etc, and just relax for a few hours. We got to tell Jess everything she never wanted to know and expect about pregnancy (she's the mommy-to-be out of us!)
L to R:Susan (mommy to Ryan 1 yr younger than Cole and Ashlyn 6 mo younger than Shelby), Jess B (expecting in July), Meg, Jess D (mommy to Joseph, a couple months younger than Cole)

Friday morning we woke up with no where to be but the itch to go. I got the kids dressed and then had a chat from Millie asking to come meet her for lunch. So we packed up an hour early, and as I was backing out of the driveway I realized we could stop by Nonnie's school. I called her up and they just happened to be having their Christmas party, and she said, "Come on by!" Her 4th graders were very excited to see Shelby and Cole. They were so sweet to them!
Shelby- just one of the girls..

Cole just fits right in..

I wish I had a few of these around to play with the kids when I need some Mommy time!

We picked Millie up in downtown Fort Worth and let Shelby pick where we eat lunch (because we knew she'd pick Chick Fil A!) After we dropped Mill back off I took the kids shopping, and we lasted FOUR hours! They were pretty darn good too!
On the ride home, Cole was thinking, "I am so over shopping..."

Day 4
Thursday. Cole was soooo much happier today. It was great...lots of playing and laughing, he was back to his old self again. (I chose to lessen the prednisone and wean him off it a little earlier than the doctor had said.)
We had a wonderful day with a long nap from 11-2 (yes, me included!) Then we had an early dinner, Daddy got home early, and Mommy got to go to a much needed dinner with some girlfriends. The best! :)
I'm sleepy tonight, so that is all! I cannot believe tomorrow is Friday! Surely we will try to get out of our pajamas before noon. :)

Day 3
I can't believe it's already Wednesday!
Today Daddy stayed home with us to help with sick moody toddler.

...around lunch time we went to visit Santa. (I cannot BELIEVE how they are robbing us poor innocent parents! $24.99 for ONE sheet of pictures, and no you don't find that out until you've already stood in line for 10 minutes and talked up sitting in Santa's lap to the kids!!!) Anyway, the kids enjoyed seeing him...no tears from them!
Of course Cole was serious as always...

Poor Cole has just been miserable all day. He's not even really sick anymore, but he is grumpy and moody, BIG TIME. Thank you prednisone.
The faces of Cole today...

The end.

Day 2
My bubby is asleep in my bed. It's 7:20 and about 10 minutes ago he started saying "Night night!" (This never happens.) So I tried to put him in his bed and he said "No mommy's bed!" (It's so nice now that he can communicate with us.) So I laid him down in the middle of my bed and out he is.
Day two has been a LONG day. Yesterday, the doctor told me that the steroids he is on will make him "weepy and mean" and those are the exact perfect words to describe Cole today (but I would add "moody.") He has boohooed all day (weepy) and yet when any of us (especially me) try to help him and make him happy he yells, "NO!!! NO NO MAMA!!!!" like he's mad. Poor buddy. He feels like crap and he ONLY wants mama. Poor mama? No way. I'm so glad to be able to be here for him. But every once in a while he'll turn around and be his old self and happy. I know it won't last long and I'm glad I'm off this week to take care of him. And we will have him all fixed up before we leave on our Christmas vacation next week.
Our camera has been dead for 2 weeks. Have you noticed less blogging and no pictures? We got the new charger (since we lost the old one) in the mail yesterday so pictures will be back soon!
Shelby has been a DEAR all day. She has been so helpful with the dogs and with Bubby and (mostly) obeying. She insists on wearing pajamas all day because to her "it's an 'S' day." Well it must be since she gets to stay home all day, right??? haha. She went through 3 pairs of pajamas today, but every time she decided to change she refused to put on real clothes since it's an 'S' day.
One funny Shelbyism...
Shelby: "Daddy open this for me."
J: "I will if you say the magic word."
Shelby: "Open this for me Obama?...Mufasa?"
What ever happened to PLEASE being the magic word??? :)
Today has been hard because it was FREEZING here in Texas. I can't get Cole out in this weather with his breathing problems so it's reading books, playing games, and watching shows all day long. Cabin fever (I don't think any of us are stay-home-inside-all-day people) has set in quickly. Hopefully later this week we will have a visit to Santa and some Christmas light viewing in the plans.
We are getting all the plans together for the Christmas cabin. Cannot wait!!!! It will be a Christmas to remember! Not only that but then we get to head to Arkansas for 2 huge family gatherings that we are looking so forward to.
Goodnight from one worn out mama!

Day one
Today is day one of my holiday break, 3 weeks off!
Yesterday I bent over and tweaked something in my back, so I took lots of ibuprofen and went to bed early. Today I woke up to Jeff kissing my cheek. I opened my eyes and he was all dressed, so I said, "Where are you going?!?!" "To work, duh." I forgot he wasn't on break with me! :( Since Cole has been slightly sick all weekend and woke up with a raging fever in the middle of the night last night, I rolled out of bed to take care of him and call the dr. office as soon as they opened. I was relieved to feel that my back was MUCH better than it was yesterday. Before I knew it, it was 11:00 and Poppy was here to watch Shelby so I could take Cole to the doctor. It was a short 5 minute wait to see the doctor (since we switched for the sole reason that our other pediatrician was ALWAYS running late and we never were out of the office in less than 2 hours.) He listened to Cole's breathing and commented on how great our little boy was at sitting still and quiet and letting him just poke around on him. Cole was just staring at him. He must like him, haha! The doctor had us do a breathing treatment in the office so he could listen to him after it. He said he is diagnosing him with "bronchiolitis" (as well as a cold) again this year, but he is probably on his way to being diagnosed with asthma. Cole had this same exact thing last year at this exact time (2 weeks before Christmas) and was given the same medications. When I was a child I had a huge asthmatic flare up every single year around the holidays as well. So our boy is on a Z-pack and liquid steroids (Prednisone) and breathing treatments every 4 hours. Thankfully he is SO good at doing his treatments this time around. Last year it took 2 (or more) of us to hold all his limbs down, hold the mask on him, and entertain him, and he usually still screamed the whole time. This year he says he's an "Elephant" with the mask on (which is actually made to look like a dinosaur) and he just wears the mask with no help required. I am so thankful for that! I am learning creative ways to get him to take his medicine. So far the best is to mix both doses in a shot glass (heehee) and fill it to the top with milk. And it really helps if Sissy is there begging to take it so Cole is like, "No Sissy! COLE'S!!!" and drinks it before she can get it. haha.
So day one is a freezing cold outside, warm bundle up under the covers day. And hopefully our little man is on his way to getting better very soon! Now I'm off to cook dinner and enjoy the fire that Daddy is making in the fireplace. Goodnight!!

Wednesday Words
This morning we were putting Cole's jacket on. I said, "Cole here, put your coat on!" and clear as day he said, "Quatro, Cinco, Seis." Jeff and I just looked at each other....OK, so the boy can speak some Spanish!! :)
I have not even been keeping up with any Shelbyisms but just know that they fill our days and make us smile all the time! This morning she was explaining to me what allergies are and that she has allergies because she is coughing. She is so inquisitive. When we say common phrases that she may not know yet...something like, "I don't want to tell you twice." she asks, "How many does twice mean?" When she asked if she could take something to school and I replied, "I think that's fine" she asked, "Does fine mean I can take it?" It's amazing to watch every little discovery. :)
I have 2 days of work left and then off until January 5th. I can't wait!
Shelby keeps asking, "When is it going to be God's birthday? Then it will be Cole's birthday then it will be my birthday." Yeah...time flies. I'm about to have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. (Booo hooooo!!!)

Christmas in Cowtown
I found some old pics on Gram's camera:

This past weekend Gram and Matthew came on Saturday and we met up with Susan and her family to go to Christmas in Cowtown at the Stockyards. It was a beautiful day.

I am pretty sure this was Shelby's (and Cole's) first pony ride. Shelby LOVED it.

So did Cole...

Hi Daddy!!

There was a "cattle drive" with about 10 longhorns, followed by a parade, with hundreds of cowboys, cowgirls and horses all decorated for Christmas.

I think the kids most favorite part was just running free.

On Saturday night Aunt Anna and Uncle Tyler came over to watch the 3 munchkins so that Jeff and I and his mom could go out to eat. We had hoffbrau and it was YUMMY! And good adult conversation :)
Sunday was a day spent at home. At about 5pm I told Shelby, "You still have your pjs on!" and she replied, "Well that's ok because it's an 'S' Day!" So true!!!

Poop pot
My phone rang tonight. It was Cole calling from Nonnie's house. He said, "Poop pot. Big boy." Yep, he pooped his first poop in the potty at Nonnie's house. Go Cole buddy!!!
Some Cole things
His newest thing is walking up to me and saying, "Sissy did it."
His other fav phrase is "Cole's turn!!!"
...oh and we can't forget, "Hungee Mama! Hungee!"
Little man has started loving to sing. This morning in the car, all by himself, he started singing, "Wheels on bus, round and round..." while doing the hand motions. So darn cute.
He has had a snotty nose so I try to keep the boogies out. When I'm picking it, he says, "Easy Momma."
We're starting to talk about going potty. Shelby, of course, wants to be right in the middle of it. She's even got her little pointer going showing him exactly how to do it. Again, we're a close family! :)

The biggest news today is that the house cleaning ladies are coming! We stopped having them come sometime this summer after Jeff was laid off and I am SOOO excited to have them back!

Shelbyism: Just an accident
I walk in to Cole crying and Shelby looking guilty and running in the opposite direction of him.
Me: "What happened?"
S: (shamefully) "I don't know."
Me: "Shelby tell me what you did."
S: "Well, I kinda just smooshed him on accident."
Me: ((trying not to laugh))
S: "I said I wanted to give the dogs a treat and Cole said NO! and I said YES and he said NO! and I said yes and he said NO! and..."
Me: (interrupting) "So you made a bad choice?"
S: "Yes."
Me: "Ok don't do it again."
S: "Yes ma'am."

Our Thanksgiving travels
Hello blog world!
For Thanksgiving, we left on Wednesday evening for Pilot Point, Texas. It's a little over an hour drive, but turned into about 2.5 hours because of us having to chase around a sinus prescription for Jeff at various pharmacies. He still never even got the medication (but survived.)
But, the Mister and I did have a bet about the time that we would arrive at his parent's house after leaving our house at 5:30. I said we would not make it by 7:30 and Jeff said we would. Since it was after 8:00 when we arrived there, Jeff had to change all the dirty diapers the next day. SCORE!!!!
Arriving late did not stop the kids from trying out Matthew's F-150. He was so excited to drive Shelby and Cole around in it.

And so they did it some more the next day.

We had a scrumptious dinner, which I did not take any picture of, but I did snap this of Cole, who couldn't wait for the real meal. Don't worry, he ate again with us. My little piggy.

Mary got the Ham Bone. She reduced this thing to a 2 inch bone in about 10 minutes.

Bath time in Gram's tub with the 3 little munchkins

Coleypants just being cute

Mattie is cute too!

Then Friday we were off to Nana's in Powderly, TX. It was about 2 hours and the kids slept for a lot of it.
This is the life...sitting around with the girls! I'm sure the boys were doing something involving a ball.

"Nana, I'm gonna tickle you to make you smile!!!"

Pile-on! No one ever said we're not a close family!

Ahh, some nice crisp country air.

Kids and outdoors just mix.

Sweet daddy

Pops (what Cole has been calling Poppy) reads great stories!

Lukas couldn't keep his hands off his new fiance.

...or his future Brother-in-law

Caught! Jeff I said no pictures!

Cole says, "Hey Tex! Move over!" Tex is our doggy Roxxy's daddy. He still has his nuts and humped my parents' dog Sadie (she's an old maid) all weekend. It was good for lots of laughs though, you know, for those dull moments...

Destructo. The messes just follow him.

Luke and Millie celebrate their short-lived 42 victory. I saw the score card the next morning. They did not win.

Saturday it was time to head home. We were ALL worn out!!!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well!!!
